ADVISORY BOARD

Chris Burgin has a B.A. in Business from Mississippi State University and an M.A. in Religious Education from Southwestern Theological Seminary. He has 15 years of experience working as pastoral staff for Walnut Ridge Church and 16 years of experience in the automotive industry.

 

In the summer of 2011 he took the bold step of leaving his pastoral position in the church to form Allies in Youth development. AiYD is a non-profit that seeks to train and empower in-country university students to become volunteer mentors to orphans in Russia.​

 

Chris has a passion for the Russian culture and helping others achieve their goals. He looks forward to working with the Eurasian Association of DFW.​

Oksana Gipp is half Russian and half Ukrainian. Born in Germany, she emigrated to the U.S. from Tashkent, Uzbekistan almost two decades ago.  Oksana holds a MBA degree from Texas Christian University and a Degree in Economics from The University of World Economy and Diplomacy.  She brings a combination of marketing management experience from Corporate America and from various non-profits. 

 

Oksana is the founder of a nonprofit organization called OrphansLink.org that engages local communities in the U.S. and abroad to help orphans become productive citizens after graduating and being kicked out onto the streets. She hopes to get the Eurasian community involved in this noble cause.  Oksana is married to a man of British descent, Michael Gipp, and has two wonderful children, Katherine and Jeremy.  She wants her children to know their roots by being exposed to their Eurasian culture and by speaking their mother tongue.

Anne Marie Weiss-Armush founded DFW International in 1998 and currently serves as President. She has produced the Dallas International Festival for 12 years, and has added the ”Fiesta Latinoamericana!” and the “African Unity Festival” to the organization’s initiatives. 

 

​A Fulbright scholar to Mexico, former Spanish teacher, and author of 4 books on Middle Eastern culture, Ms. Weiss-Armush lived 11 years in Saudi Arabia.  She was named Dallas ‘Peacemaker of the Year’ for 2003 and she serves as a commentator on international and immigrant cultures.​​

Christopher A. Davis is a graduate of Northeastern State University.  He has been a drummer for many years and supports or plays with many groups and bands.  With an education grounded in literature, fine arts and teaching, Mr. Davis believes in the importance of curriculum and education, especially as it relates to collaboration and teaching industry best-practices.

 

Mr. Davis currently serves as Director of the SIAME Foundation. Driven by a passion to improve communities by linking the arts with education, he frequently collaborates with a broad spectrum of like-minded organizers, performers and educational institutions to bring unique events to the region.

Baya Kakouberi, pianist, has been hailed as a "treat to watch and hear" was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, and made her debut at the age of eleven.  After graduating from Tbilisi Special School of Music for the Talented and Gifted, she entered the Moscow Conservatory, where she continued her studies on the Masters and Doctoral levels under the tutelage of famous pianist and professor, Sergei Dorenski, and Tchaikovsky Competition Gold Medalist, Vladimir Krainev.In March 2010, Dr. Kakouberi was honored as the recipient of the coveted International Ambassador for Cultural Exchange Award. Awarded by the Russian Winter Festival at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, TX, this award recognizes outstanding achievement in performing and teaching disciplines domestically and abroad. In 2009, Ms. Kakouberi was engaged to tour China a soloist. Due to her much sought after teaching skills, she is also rounding out the cultural event by presenting master classes in the leading conservatories in mainland China. She is the head of the piano department at the 5th annual Elan International Music Festival held in Dallas for two weeks in June, www.elanmusicfestival.org In 2008, she collaborated with violinist Gary Levinson in the recording of the complete sonatas for piano and violin by Beethoven. The project was spearheaded by the Classical Music Recording Foundation. The four CD set is slated for release n 2011. Ms. Kakouberi has appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Moscow, Georgia, Armenia, Latvia, Italy and the United States. In 1996, she was among the Worlds Ten Most Distinguished Pianists chosen by the Palm Beach Invitational Piano Competition.  In the summer of 2000, Ms. Kakouberi was chosen as recipient of the Most Outstanding and Distinguished Pianist award in the IBLA International Competition in Italy.  In addition to her solo recitals, she has appeared as guest soloist in concerts throughout the US and Europe, including performances at Moscow Conservatory Great Hall, Steinway Hall in New York, and the Cerritos Center for Performing Arts in California.  As a chamber performer Ms. Kakouberi made her debut at Carnegie Weill Recital Hall in New York in February 2002. Ms. Kakouberi returns to that venue in a scheduled appearance on the CMRF annual gala concert in the fall of 2011 at Weill Hall.Noted as an outstanding Chamber Music Artist, Ms. Kakouberi is the Artistic Director of the Blue Candlelight Music Series in Dallas, Texas, www.bluecandlelight.org where she enjoys collaboration with internationally renowned artists. As a noted chamber musician she has appeared numerous times at the Music in the Mountains Festival in Durango, CO, where she was also a frequent soloist. She is a household name at the major venues in North Texas, such as the University of North Texas in Denton, TX, the Dallas Museum of Art and the Eisemann Center for the Performing Arts where she has appeared as a concerto soloist. Ms. Kakouberi regularly appears with her most gifted students at the Giovanni Adulti Concert Series held at the Piano Gallery in Dallas. In an unprecedented project in the spring of 2009, Ms. Kakouberi has recorded the three books of the Russian Piano Technique, based on the teachings of Professor Nikolaev, to be used in practice and performance techniques  for students of all levels.

​Gary Levinson joined the Dallas Symphony as the Senior Principal Associate Concertmaster in 2002. Chosen by Zubin Mehta to join the New York Philharmonic in 1987 at age 21, Mr. Levinson made his New York Philharmonic solo debut under the baton of Erich Leinsdorf in 1991, the same year he earned his Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School. He has also toured at Mr. Mehta’s request with the Israel Philharmonic. His teachers included Dorothy DeLay, Masao Kawasaki, Glenn Dicterow and Felix Galimir.
A prolific recording artist, Mr. Levinson is currently involved in three major recording projects. Asked by the Classical Music Recording Foundation to complete their comprehensive catalog of the chamber music works of Beethoven, he has recorded the ten sonatas for piano and violin with renowned pianist Daredjan Kakouberi. Koch Records will release a disc of award winning composer George Tsontakis’ chamber music in which Mr. Levinson collaborates with David Jolley, Melvin Chen and others. Finally, a retrospective of the important women composers from mid-19th century to the present is due out with Albany Records in 2009. Works feature Libby Larsen, Louise Ferrenc, and Victoria Bond among others.
Mr. Levinson’s video “DSO Studio: The Master Class” was released in early 2007. It is an attempt to both elucidate the craft of the professional violinist and address issues both budding violinists and kids simply interested in the language of music can incorporate in their lives. As co-director of the Élan International Music Festival, he leads an intensive program comprised of successful practice techniques to chamber music coachings.
A laureate of the Jaçques Thibaud and Romano Romanini International Violin Competitions, Mr. Levinson toured Italy commemorating the twentieth anniversary of being named the Grand Prize winner of the 1986 Romanini Competition. He was extended the invitation to open the 2009 chamber music season of the Fondazione di Romano Romanini Recital Series with a solo recital at Teatro San Carlo in Brescia, Italy.
Sought after as a chamber musician, Mr. Levinson has collaborated with renowned artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Christopher O’Reilly, Ann-Marie McDermott, Lynn Harrell and Lucas Foss. He has been on the faculty of the Aspen Music Festival since 2002, where he has led the American Academy of Conducting Orchestra at the request of David Zinman. He also makes regular appearances at the Vail Bravo! Music Festival where his chamber music concerts have been featured on NPR’s Performance Today.
As the first violinist of the Elysium String Quartet, he recorded two critically acclaimed CDs as well as touring the Mediterranean as part of the first annual Mykonos International Music Festival in 2000. Mr. Levinson can be heard on the Albany, CALA, New World and Elysium Records labels.
